The Best Google Tools and Services for Your Business – Part 2


Last week we discussed the Google Apps productivity suite and how it can help with your business, today we discuss a few more useful Google Services and tools that can further enhance and help your business grow.

  • Google Places:

    This is a free service from Google that allows business owners to set up a record of your business in the Google database. Add details about your business such as the name, address, phone number, services, hours of operation etc. and the information will appear with a small map on relevant Google search results. Google places will look at your business location, as well as other details to determine its relevance to a search made and since Places is a Google product relevant listings usually appear on the top of search results. This service is available regardless of whether you have a website or not and if you still don’t have a Google Places listing for your business is time to make one now.

  • Google +:

    This is Google’s very own form of social networking but from a business perspective is also a lot more. With Google + you can create a business page and connect with other businesses and people – use your business page to share relevant news, initiate discussions, share offers and even start a Q&A hangout session for your customers to directly talk to you. A Google + business page is a great way to promote our business and market your brand.

  • Google AdWords:

    This is Google’s advertising service and is currently the leading Pay Per Click advertising provider on the internet. It is a great way to market your business website and generate traffic resulting in conversions too. You are allowed to create Ads to be shown for a specific set of keywords, these Ads can also be targeted based on location and will be shown to people making relevant searches on Google. Google AdWords allows you to create a set of Ad campaigns and monitor them closely with useful statistics like number of clicks, where clicks came from, the best performing ads and best keywords. Google AdWords also allows you set a budget letting you decide how much you want to spend each day, giving you excellent control over your online marketing budget too.

  • Google Analytics:

    This is another exceptional tool available from Google which gives you great insight into your website data. Find out exactly how your website runs, obtain useful statistics  like the number of visitors to your site, the search terms they use, which pages they look at, how long they stay, the path they take through the site and even at which point they leave. All this information can be very useful in making improvements to your website to cater specifically to the people visiting it and can help improve online conversions. Google Analytics can also be linked with AdWords to give you better insight into how your Ads perform and the resulting conversions.

  • Google Trends:

    Your business must evolve with the changing times and must cater to the growing variety of potential customers – this means the right marketing language and relevant terminology must be used in your sales materials, website content, SEO and PPC advertising. Google Trends is a great tool to give you the insight you need into understanding the various search terms relevant to you. Look at trend of a specific search term over time, filter it by location and even compare various search terms to see which one is trending up. If your business has an online presence then you should be using Google Trends to help with identify which search terms and keywords relevant to your business are popular.

  • Google Alerts:

    This tool provides you with alerts when Google finds relevant information regarding a topic, keyword, or name that you enter when it crawls through the internet. From a business point of view it is a great tool to monitor your online presence, by adding a term like your business name Google will email you any articles, blog posts, videos or webpages that it finds with that term. This way you can view any discussions about your business, for example a customer is talking about your services on a random forum, Google Alerts will email you a link to this allowing you to read and respond if you like.

Google has a large number of extremely useful applications for business owners and this list is continuing to grow. If some of these tools are integrate with your day to day business activities they can help improve productivity, organization, efficiency and most of all make things easier.
