If you are not using stories yet, we strongly suggest you might want to start. Not sure what to post on Stories? We have a few tips to help get you started.

1. Use Hashtags and Location Tags

Just like hashtags get more likes, comments, and views on your regular Instagram post hashtags on Instagram stories will help you gain a further reach.

Remember to add one or two hashtags to your Stories. However, try not to go too crazy and add 10 because even though it works on the regular post when it comes to Stories it’s best to add two visible hashtags. If you want to add a few more just remember to hide them behind stickers.

There are two ways you can add hashtags. One is using the actual hashtag feature under the sticker selection, or you can type the hashtag into your story using the regular text typing tool. You can also add location tags which are also available under the sticker selection (top row, left side).

2. Add Important Stories to Your Story Highlights

As you know Instagram Stories stay up for just 24 hours. The only way to avoid this is to add them to your Highlights. Once you do this the Story will stay visible on your profile until you decide to take it down. Give some consistency with your Highlights by giving them a “cover” that goes with your brand. As an example, if you have a restaurant you can create a few covers that say menu, client reviews and special events. You can do this by tapping on one of your Highlights and then tapping on the three dots in the bottom right corner. Next tap Edit Highlights, and tap Edit Cover.

3. Post at Least Once a Day

The reason Stories are so powerful is that they put you at the very top of people’s news feeds. Your brand is more visible on Stories which is why it is very different from a regular post. Remember your Stories will disappear from the top of the page after 24 hours, even if you save them to your Highlights. To stay up there you need to be posting a new Story at least once every 24 hours. You already know that consistency is key so remember that using this feature once a week is not going to produce many results. Make it a regular habit and see the results for yourself.

4. Increase Engagement by Asking Questions and Running Polls

Remember it is all about creating creative and engaging content. Thankfully, IG Stories make this easy. Under your stickers, there are five options you could use.

  • Poll
  • Questions
  • Quiz
  • Chat
  • The slider

IG Stories are a fun and engaging feature, that connects with your audience. Use these five features to get people to communicate with your brand.

5. Use Stories to Send Traffic Back to Your Website

Social media is a tool to send people back to your website. The easiest way to do this with Stories is by using the “swipe up” feature. This is where you can add a link, and when people swipe up, IG will send them to that page. Remember that you need to have at least 10,000 followers to have access to this feature. Most of us do not have 10,000+ followers.

What do you do if you do not have 10,000 followers?

Simple just remember to add your website link in your profile bio. Remember to direct people’s attention to the link in your bio in your Instagram Stories and regular posts.

6. Plan to Maintain Your Brand Voice

Instagram Stories are more casual than regular posts. However, that does not mean you should post them without planning them out. This way, you can make sure that your branding and messaging is consistent.

Remember to pay attention to the fonts, colours, backgrounds, stickers, and music you use. Do they go together from one Story to the next? Remember You want Instagrammers to watch your Stories and know that they belong to your brand and keep them coming for more!

7. Share Other People’s Posts

Do not just only post all your content. There is something called “brand fatigue,” which is exactly what it sounds like. People eventually get tired of seeing posts that exist solely to promote your brand. Sharing other people’s posts is an excellent way to network, build new relationships, and grow your traffic and engagement.

To share someone’s post, simply tap on the icon on the right under their photo. This will open a new window, where you will see the option, “Add post to your story.” Next click on the share to story icon.

8. Go Live

We know that going Live can be frightening. Don’t worry! nobody is expecting you to be perfect. Live videos are so popular because they are authentic.

As a plus point when you do go live, Instagram sends a notification to your followers, letting them know that they should tune in. Live Stories are a smart way to connect with your audience and engage in an entirely different way.

You can create behind-the-scenes videos, interviews, Q&As and anything else you can think of that would be of value and importance to your target audience.
